When your sight, or the sight of someone you care about, is failing, we can help.

Our services page details the range of services and activities we offer for people with sight loss, their families and carers across the Wakefield district. This includes emotional and practical help, support and advice, community events, home visits, a telephone advice line and signposting to other support services that may be of help.

Hayley Grocock, Chief Executive Officer, responsible for the overall management of the service at strategic and operational levels and for reporting to the Board of Trustees/Directors.

Bev Poppleton, Operations Manager, oversees and manages member services and business operations across the organisation. Bev keeps our internal processes running smoothly as well as ensuring delivery of our services in line with contract and funder requirements. Bev works closely with Hayley on the future strategy for the development of the organisation.

Nic Ford, Sight Loss Advisor, is responsible for conducting home visits to assess clients’ needs and providing certain equipment. In addition, she provides general emotional support, impartial information, guidance and advocacy to visually impaired adults, their families and carers across the Wakefield district. Nic also co-ordinates the technical aspects of our regular Equipment Demonstration and Advice Days and equipment research.

Jo Brook, Community Coordinator, is responsible for the day-to-day delivery and expansion of our community outreach work, which includes regular events such as coffee mornings, one-off social trips and our befriending service. Jo is also responsible for the management and recruitment of our core group of volunteers.

Nicola Ellis, Administrator and Service Support, provides general support to the Operations Manager and staff team, and also has experience of conducting home visits and supporting to our service users.

Neil Newton, Tech Mate Project Leader, delivers Tech Mate - a new service designed to help our members with technology regardless of their current level of knowledge. Neil is sight impaired himself and is here to support you if you don’t know where to begin, have a specific problem or query about technology, or simply want to try something new on your mobile phone or tablet computer.

Volunteers – our work would not be possible without our dedicated team of volunteers who support the staff and the activities of the organisation in a variety of ways. Further information about volunteering opportunities is available by contacting the office – please give us a call, we really value the contribution of all our volunteers.
