side awning on Dormobile

Post by loic » Sat Feb 28, 2015 8:23 pm

I saw a pictures in the last classic land rover magazine, a dormobile with a side awning on it. Is it someone from here?
Is it possible to have some picture on how it fit and how it's work with the lock system of the dormobile roof?

many thanks

Yes, it is mine mate. Pm me your details and I will tell you how to mount it. I designed a bracket that involves no drilling and is easy to fabricate. Dan

I fitted the front section of my awning to the roof rack and then made a stepped bracket which is fitted externally just behind the kitchen window. I put a metal plate on the inside of the vehicle and then bolted the bracket to the aluminium / plate, this gives a secure fitting. Make sure when fitting your awning to keep it parallel with the pop top roof and equal distance from the gutter :tiphat:

Mine is fitted probably 150mm higher than Dan's.

Thanks for your answer. For the moment I use a tap http://www.decathlon.be/tarp-kaki-id_2363223.html fixed with rope, but it is not quick and easy to erect. So I'm thinking about a side awning like ARB, maybe with a room under to put the stuff for the night Image
could you please put son detailed picture of the fixation? And on the place left for the roof's hook?

Thanks

Loic, send me your rmail address and I will give you details. My bracket design can be higher if needs be as it utilises the gutter (no drilling of vehicle) and has proven very robust.

I have awning rails screwed to both gutters so I can use our awning either side, The awning is a 2.8m Caravanstore and held up for transport with straps to keep it clear of the doors. If you are tall, this could be a problem, but not a problem to us average people.

Need to have a closer look at Dans truck to see how he did his, but our system works for us.

Cheers Mick
