Twiggy's first adventure

Post by Kippawagon » Mon May 26, 2014 9:58 am

Brands Hatch celebrated the 50th anniversary of its first Grand Prix in fine style with a display of roughly 15 vehicles from members of the Series 2 Club Garden of England Area. Twiggy was the only Carawagon and generated lots of interest :nana1:

Carawagons always get a lot of interest as they are not often seen!

Dormobiles are more 'normal' looking to most folk as they are used to seeing VW campers on TV or folk remember them from their heyday in the 60s-70s.

Be prepared for the inevitable "Did you make it yourself" question :thud: We always get some of those at shows :stars:

Anyway, well done on your first outing

Cheers,
Robin.

Hi

Pleased your first outing went so well.

Did you get an idea of your mpg?

Looks like a good selection of different
landrovers on the stand.

Um..... filled her up before we went. My daughter said she could see the fuel gage needle moving down as we drove. That's as far as I got to calculating MPG!

I WILL keep the logbook up-to-date, though, so all will be revealed in time.

Most of the people I spoke to knew more about Series Land Rovers than I did, having had them in their youth etc etc, but I felt I held my own ok. We spent some of the time cleaning up the cooker a bit, although we couldn't get it working

I have to admit that driving on the motorway was quite tiring, having to concentrate rather hard to keep Twiggy between the white lines! Driving the A20 and the lanes 'round our way is much more enjoyable. I was actually really sad to put her back in the barn; getting back into the 90 was quite an experience - I met someone on the narrow lane on the way home and slammed my foot on the brake pedal so hard (anticipating Twiggy's stopping distance) I nearly achieved an emergency stop!

Hi Kip

Glad to here you had a good time. They are tiring to drive, but you get used to it. Make sure your tire pressures are correct as this can effect the steering quite a lot. On mine I run at 30psi at the front and 45 psi on the rears.

The brakes on your truck were originally designed to stop these.

You are the proud owner of a very rare beast, a Land Rover with very good brakes.

Will take your advice and check tyre pressures.
