Do they run on propane or butane?

They're not sophisticated Rob, they'll run on either

I've been running mine on butane for the last couple of years, but changed the bottle and regulator for propane this winter.

Doesn't seem to make any difference to the flame.

Cheers,
Robin.

Cheers. Just keeping an eye out for the stove as it's the only other bit I really need at the moment (heater is also needed, but much more expensive)!

Assume it'd fit on a (folding) shelf on the back door?

Yes, that's the same stove as Patrick's (and Eddi's) on the back door.

Searle did make, or had made, a folding arrangement out of sheet steel, with the stove fixed to it and catches to hold it up - there's a picture of Eddi's here:

You can't really see the door on that picture - I think Patrick might have one which shows it up a bit better.

The only problem with it on the rear door is wind! You might want to mount it high enough so it can be used from inside with the door closed if it's windy as it will blow out! or, as we've done for Patrick's, make a windshield for each side.

Cheers,
Robin.

Thanks. Was planning on being able to use it when the door was open or closed. Alternatively there are the Coleman's liquid fuel stoves. Just need to carry petrol then.

As I've got a pretty much blank canvas I can sort the layout to suit us rather than work around Searle's ideas! It also means I can go with smaller gas bottles stashed internally & potentially use the space under the passenger for a storage fuel tank.

if you don't specifically need a dudley stove and want to build something for inside the vehicle then how about

Curiously mine was fitted with a full Calor B600 oven, which is semi-permanently mounted inside. The floor mounted stop tap is connected to the oven by quite a length of LPG hose - enough to move the cooker onto a table in the rear tent, although as you can imagine it isn't really the lightest thing to move about. I can only imagine this is why it is fixed how it is, and why the hose is so long. I don't really know how much I will use the full oven - for me I think the space underneath would be better utilised for fridge space but it is nice to have a bit of luxury. Roast dinner, anyone? :eatin:

As found... I haven't fired it back up yet though I have stripped it and reassembled. Need to get my gas plumbing sorted ASAP really, and the Propex to install too...
