Hello, new member here

Post by DrivingDutchman » Mon Feb 10, 2014 12:43 pm

Hi all,

I just purchased a nice 1969 Dormobile.
Will post a piccie soon, I'm currently in the process of getting it insured and MOTed.

Some of you probable know the one I bought. It is the one from Michel in France. (also on the series2club forum and Dormobile forum).

Quite chuffed with it.

Does anyone can advice a good insurer? I am waiting for quotes from Adrian Flux, Herritage, NFU and RH insurance.
Any more worth calling?

Cheers,

Michiel

Hi Michiel, and welcome

Don't forget Peter James (http://www.peterjamesinsurance.co.uk) - as I mentioned in the PM, Patrick got a good deal from them even though both his SWB & Carawagon are parked on the drive.

Oh, and don't forget to post pictures of your new acquisition :tiphat:

Cheers,
Robin.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately Peter James can't insure me because I am currently unemployed. :aaagh:

What has that got to do with having an insurance.... As long as you are able to pay the premium I would guess. :banghead:

Hello and welcome!
As mentioned above I have Peter James insuring me, I know that's not much help to you, but you may find this list of all the companies I tried last year helpful:

http://www.rms1.co.uk/lrcc/forum/viewto ... f=10&t=546

Like Les said, worth mentioning that you're a series 2 club member too (after they have given you the first price so you know they have actually knocked something off for it)

Cheers,
Patrick

The sound is just amazing... 6 cylinder.... :nana1:

Need to convert to electronic points though. Should be bit more economic then.

Need to learn how everything works now in the Dormi.

Insurancewise, my quotes / experience has been:

RH under £100 but needs to be parked on the drive at night. No problem with modifications like tdi. Unlimited mileage and breakdown

Heritage - under £100 but less mileage and no commuting (I occasionally drive to the station in it

Can't remember the name so will check and edit - complete tossers, didn't understand what a Dormobile is. Others have had great experiences so it obviously depends on who is on the other end of the phone. Dormobile CLub reckons on getting a discount but they haven't heard of it on the end of the phone. S2C gets 15% but they still dont know what a dormobile is

RH insurance are ace. unlimited milage, 200 excess, 75 glass etc. 90 days european breakdown cover. I was quoted £120.74. Took it as it was already cheaper then my old series 2a 109 with Footman James, who wouldn't insure my Dormobile unless it is parked up in a garage. I have a garage, but it don't fit in there.
Herritage didn't want to insure me because I'm currently unemployed.

But I got it sorted now. Wednesday MOT day and hopefully I get the insurance paperwork. Then of to the post office for the V62 form and a tax disk.
