New Project

Hi All , just picked up my new project. It is a 1964 109 ex mil hard top, as far as I can work out it was a mashall ambulance that has been re-boded with a normal tub sometime before it was released in 1977.Photos to follow as soon as I work it out and it is light enough to take some good ones. :nana: :nana: :nana: :nana1: :cheers:

What are your plans for it; a camper?

You can't beat a LWB camper Gordon. Looks like a good'un once you've sorted the front end. It's sitting nice and high on the springs, has it got all its innards???

Thanks John , It has its original engine as far as I can tell, only problem is it has a 3 bulk head / lights in the wings and a plastic grill(sorry Patrick) but I can change that.PS if any one wants a good 3 bulk head I will have one for sale soon.

How do you know it was an ambulance in its previous life?

Hate to say, but to me it looks like someone's been "at it" :mrgreen:

Rear tub is civillian front fill 2a, mil fills under the seats, front wings are 68-71 2a, front panel is 3 (unless the hooks and holes are there for the cross-type 68-71 2a wire grill), 3 bulkhead, 3 deluxe bonnet (optional extra on 2a), rear spring hangers and front dumb irons look extended from photos so could well be an ex-mil chassis.

Any evidence of the ambulance front and rear anti-roll bar mounts on the axles or the chassis? Are the axles reinforced mil Rover 9/Rover 11 front and rear, or has it a 3 salisbury rear? Are all the ancillary outriggers on the chassis for twin tanks etc? Do you have a mil square rear xmember or a tapered civvy one? Thick or thin rad? Thick for '64.

Etc etc, nice truck, COUGH.... ditch the ambu plate and get a plain one stamped up...... COUGH :whistle:

What military reg number is on the plate by the way? :mrgreen:

A nice blank canvas to start with :cheers: My brother in the uk created this camper out of the same type :stars: Not sure what's in it but he often goes "walkabout" in it for weeks on end. :cactus:

Hi Alec, Yes I know the 109" has the wrong body and a series 3 bulkhead. The Marshall body was taken off when it was de-mobbed in 1977. The chassis has had 2 tanks, extra holes in the front dumb irons to alter the springs, axles are reinforced Rover 9,there is an extra cross member about 14" from the rear cross member(which has been replaced with a civilian one). The wings have been altered on the front plate to fit the lights in and have rubber door stops with stays behind. A brake servo from a freight rover has been fitted (and a washer bottle)The gearbox has a rod with rubber mountings attached to the chassis. The paperwork matches up with the engine numbers and the chassis number which is well stamped and readable. I still need to find the date stamps on the diffs, steering box, starter motor and axle numbers. Darkness arrived before I got to it.
I shall put a correct bulkhead back on it, the chassis is in fantastic condition and the engine is the original one. I expect it to be a long project as I start a new job in a few weeks time.
