Hello from Scotland
Hello from Scotland
Hello all,
My wife has just surprised me by buying herself a 1971 6cyl Carawagon from down in Moffat. We have just got it home and really pleased with it. The chassis is pretty poor and will need a lot of work, possibly replacement but the bulkhead is remarkably good, all things considered. We are aiming to recomission it over the winter, ready for touring the Highlands in the summer.
Hopefully I should have attached some pictures below,
Cheers, James and Sam

Welcome and it's good to know you have her support for the new hobby ! It also looks like you have some usefull space to begin the work (jealous - moi !?)JimMcC wrote:My wife has just surprised me by buying herself a 1971 6cyl Carawagon from down in Moffat.
Hopefully you will have it ready for touring next year and meeting other lrcc members. If you do have to replace the chassis I think 2014 will be a more realistic target even with the two of you working on it (my experience but others on here do work much quicker !).
Where about in Scotland are you ?
Regards
Ian

We were all watching that one! It was only 45 minutes up the road from me in Carlisle..... Glad it has gone to a new home, how far up Scotland are you? You might want to join the Series 2 Club as well (shameless plug from the magazine editor and Area Organiser for Borders and South Scotland). You have probably saved at least 3 marriages by buying it before one of us did!!!

You're a lucky man James, that's one astute lady you've got there. I too was going to take a punt but the threat of SWAMBO practising her vows of silence, celibacy and culinary skills swayed me.
A Carawagon, no matter what the condition, is likely to be a good investment in the long term - one I originally bought for £850 is probably worth 12-14K, now; another cost me £1500 and was recently sold for more than 5 times that though both had had much time and money lavished on them. Co-incidentally both made it to North Africa and back last year.
An added bonus is that a Carawagon can't be mistaken for anything else
Welcome to the club, hope to see you both before too long.

Re: Hello from Scotland
Hi All,
Many thanks for the very warm welcome.
We are currently making a list of all the jobs we need to do on the Carawagon. I hope to get it up on the ramp over the weekend for a thorough inspection, then the job list will no doubt increase significantly!
I am a long time Land Rover owner/restorer but I know next to nothing about the Carawagons, so I expect I shall be asking lots of questions on the forum.
We are not far from Biggar in South Lanarkshire.
Cheers, James and Sam

Hi James & Sam,
I'm really pleased this one was snapped up by an enthusiast
As mentioned, several of us were hovering over this one, me included!
In fact, if I hadn' t been in the middle of picking up my latest Carawagon project, it might have been snapped up within minutes of it appearing on ebay
Anyway, you've got a unique vehicle there. I hope we'll see it at some shows next year
Cheers,
Robin.
