Very sad :-(Troika wrote:There is now one less Dormobile on the road, as of yesterday my 66 Dormobile was destroyed in a fire
Nearly lost my Dormy in a similar way. Fridge unit on a van caught fire, which spread to the building next door and was just licking across the inside of the roof of my garage when I the Fire Service arrived. Dormy still has the blistered paintwork.
Hope you can get a decent settlement from the insurance.

Re: How many?
Sorry to hear this
I read this article a few years ago and have always thought how dreadful it would be, good luck with a replacement.

Re: How many?
I came across a Series 3 88" while looking for a donor vehicle to restore a 2a ex army SWB. Being close to the coast and used to fish the beaches here the chassis and bulkhead are beyond salvation. So my ex army unit is in the process of being discharged and joining the civilian ranks uitising the common body parts of the Carawagon. I've checked on the Aulro website here and apparently 4 others have turned up for sale over the last few years.

I'm in Australia by the way
Re: How many?
There were 3 just recently plus a couple of others a few years ago including a very nice 6-cylinder (from South Australia I think). There was also a very good condition complete roof sold about 18months ago, looked like someone hoisted it up into the garage roof and it was there for years until they decided to sell it. Someone on the AULRO forum purchased it.roverland15 wrote: I've checked on the Aulro website here and apparently 4 others have turned up for sale over the last few years.
Many seem to turn up with the kitchen parts missing. I guess these are removed if the vehicle is not used for camping any longer and they somehow get lost.
There is a section on the AULRO forum for Dormobiles & Carawagons but not too many people are posting. I believe Jerry knows someone in Queensland with a few Dormobiles.
Finding mine was a lucky break......Spoke to someone who moves in Land Rover circles, mentioned I was after a Dormobile and it turned out he'd been servicing one since it turned up at Regent Motors (Melbourne Land Rover Agent) in the 70's. The owner had passed away and the family didn't know what to do with it (along with his enormous collection of ex military vehicles)..........

Re: How many?
Sorry to hear about the lost Dormobile. Even worse when it happens in a supposedly safe environment.

Just a quickie, KPE 614K my Continental Ultimate is still chugging around . Looking the worse for wear. I replaced the roof hinges and wood last year after the 'brassed' steel hinges unzipped.
