Re: Dormobile project on ebay.
I'd do the same if it were a Dormy - I don't care
Don't forget that if this project is dropped on to a donor SW as suggested, it will assume the identity of the donor vehicle so that's another heritage lost.
Of course, just slipping a new chassis under it will keep its ID

In a similar vein, my scottish series 3 dormobile is being reincarnated as a 1965 series 2a (bitsa).
In the spirit of Landrovers and Dormobiles I am sure.

Re: Dormobile project on ebay.
I'm not saying that Martin Walters never converted a used vehicle, but they were a big business converting 100's of new vehicles into Dormobiles. During the Sixties they had 800 employees and bought vehicles in large batches unregistered direct from the manufacturers. My Dormobile was in a batch of 10 export model vehicles from Land Rover. From what I was told, vehicles were registered before being sent out, but if they were going to a Land Rover dealership, they might not have been registered. Most Dormobile's I have seen do have the Maidenhead registration. The reg could be different if it wasn't converted as new.
Dan, what are the letters in your reg?

All being well, this will be part of the Bywaters' stable once formalities have been sorted!

Re: Dormobile project on ebay.
My logic (such that there is any) is based on
My brother lives in Helston and can store it
The Dormobile bits look almost intact and salvageable (worth the money alone)
It is a series 2a
He isn't aware how long it is going to be at his place!
Cheapest Dormobile I have bought yet (although could easily rack up £££ getting it back and replacing chassis, V8 etc
Couldn't let it go for scrap
How long/ much fuel did you spend getting your Carawagon back?

Re: Dormobile project on ebay.
One of mine was South of Truro, but it was just the body so I made a bare trailer frame to collect it.
It's not like towing a car transporter trailer both ways; I think I worked the fuel out at around 35mpg on the way down with empty trailer and about 28mpg on the way back.
Down in one day - set off at around 6am for a nice steady drive with a couple of stops; overnight at Truro football ground (Carawagon style) where they encourage trucks to park and even open the changing rooms for showers etc. as it helps keep vandals away, picked up the body next morning and back up as far as Eastnor for the show by mid afternoon.
As I say though, that was a bare trailer frame, made from scaffold tube and a caravan axle so probably around 150kg. Full body with seats & all interior I reckon around 500kg, so even loaded that's a long way short of a car transporter trailer with a full Dormy on board at 45mph or so so I don't think I'd try to make it back in one day
Oh, and I deliberately made the trailer with the axle set well back, to fit the wheel arches in the body, so it was rock steady at 70mph whereas I rarely go over 50mph with the car transporter trailer, and often even slower!
Here it was (before I lowered the slider plate down to the bottom of the ladder):
Cheers,
Robin.

Re: Dormobile project on ebay.
Dormobile specific bits are certainly worth saving! Looks like it started off as a 6 pot from what I can see.
I know of a Stage One that is ripe for conversion if you ever feel it needs to stay a V8...

Re: Dormobile project on ebay.
Hi Alex
Don't be breaking it up. I know a couple of folk interested in getting hold of Dormobiles, but don't do Ebay. I'm sure you could sell this on and make a few quid. If I wasn't so skint, I would have bought it myself and rebuilt it. You don't have to buy a new chassis. The Galv chassis that has just gone under WWD cost me about £275 and some time.
Look after her
Mick
