Re: Dormobile on the bay
Yes, popped up on my saved search.
It looks pretty complete and the interior looks in good condition, which I suppose it would have to be to command that sort of price. It's also a 6 pot, which, as the seller says, are becoming increasingly rare.
I'm not sure about the statements about an S3 being worth more than an S2, or that Carawagons outnumber Dormobiles by 3:1
Perhaps if he's been browsing at the shows over the last few years it might seem like there are more Carawagons, but that's down to who wants to take their vehicles to the shows - I know quite a few Dormobile owners who never attend shows.
Phil (Bea) used to manage a registry of LR Dormobiles, which I think AlexB has agreed to take over. Perhaps they might be able to give us an idea of how many Dormobiles are on that register?
Cheers,
Robin.

Hi all
26mpg!!! I had better buy her.
As for how many Dormobiles? Martin Walters built about 900 Land Rover Dormobiles. How many Carawagons were built> I know Philip said Searle only did 2 in 1966.

Hi,
I spent time at Gaydon Archives, and from 1964 to 1971
they built 295 carawagons(series 2).This does not include
SWB,5 door models, and owners taking their own landrover
for conversion.
If your 900 is only series 2 landrovers. That's 3 to 1 to Dormobiles.
They built more than 2 in 1966 Mick.
Regards
Phillip

Re: Dormobile on the bay
Phillip,
I seem to recall you were looking for export chassis sent to Searle, as Carawagons (and Dormobiles, as far as I know) where built on export chassis.
Searle were also LR dealers, so it might be that some of those were re-sold without being converted making the numbers even lower
Of course, we don't know how many S3 export chassis were sent to Searle - perhaps there was a massive boom and they made thousands
Regards,
Robin.
