Carawagon 'Continental'
Carawagon 'Continental'
Just found this on eBay and added to my fleet. Great condition, runs well, drives nicely and have already done an overnighter. Needs a few touches here and there and some cosmetic electrickery, but very useable.
Having been a Classic Land Rover Camper in a tent for several years, I'm looking forward to the new standards of civilisation.
(Will need to find out how to post a pic)

Re: Carawagon 'Continental'
Hi Robin, picked up on Saturday in Southampton and after a drive, here's a pic of her parked up in Dover before overnighting along the sea-front before catching the ferry yesterday. Plenty of exclusions over the Summer planned in France, Germany, Belgium (and U.K.) for the Series 2 Club's International.

Re: Carawagon 'Continental'
Looks to be a nice example, well done on your purchase
Re: Carawagon 'Continental'
Was thinking about putting in a couple of upgrades - a Webasto Petrol Heater ( Ebay has one : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270846479738 ) as well as a Roamerdrive. Neither is inexpensive, but figure that both will make her more useable year-round. I'd be interested to hear of any negative points on the Webasto I should be aware of, or potentially better options I might consider.

Re: Carawagon 'Continental'
Well, if you're willing to wait a little while, I might be making another bulk purchase of 'Webasto' heaters
These are from the same production line as supplied to Webasto, but before they get the Webasto branding.
The last couple of batches I got came out at around £500 each, for petrol or Diesel.
See HERE and HERE
It's a couple of years since I made the last bulk purchase, so it's probably about time to sound out folk again to see if there's any interest.
I need at least 10 to reach the break point, but I'm willing to buy a batch of 10 if I get at least 5 confirmed and hold the rest for anyone else who wants one later.
Re. the Roamerdrive, if you have a good engine (you should have with a Turner only done 900 miles ), a much cheaper option is 3.54 diffs from an early Disco/Range Rover and / or Defender 110.
This raises the overall gearing so can make a 2.25 feel a little more sluggish on acceleration, but gives a great, quiet, cruising speed.
If you're not sure, you could source just the rear diff and swap that to see how you get on with it. I think you'll have a Salisbury rear axle on a '72 S3, so would need the diff from an early 110 - not as easy to swap as a Rover diff, but not too difficult either.
Cheers,
Robin.

Re: Carawagon 'Continental'
Would definitely be interested in participating in a group buy if before the Autumn, otherwise I might need to pay full price to ensure I can use through the Winter.
I'm really happy with the Roamerdrive in my SIIA - so might keep the axles in tact; the 2.25l petrol still works quite hard, especially on the hills..

Re: Carawagon 'Continental'
Also thinking about getting a breather kit - not sure exactly which one yet, but perhaps for the two axles, the gearbox, transfer box and the overdrive - same set-up as for my SIIA. And, if you have one, one of the rear-extending awning frames. No hurry on any of these bits, but I see them as really worthwhile upgrades which really add to the functionality. Currently I'm upgrading curtains...

Re: Carawagon 'Continental'
No problem about the breather kits, always in stock
I might be able to let you have an awning frame kit I was holding back for one of my project Carawagons, as I'll probably make another batch at some time in the future, probably before either of them are ready for the road
I'll try to drum up some interest re. heaters - might end up selling some on ebay to make the numbers up though
Cheers,
Robin.
