Carawagon internal lamp on Ebay

Post by Peaceand » Tue Jan 19, 2016 9:28 pm

Doesn't look like anything I've seen before, but the seller reckons it's original from a series 2a Carawagon Safari roof.

I have been wondering if the lamp actually came from Countess Rivet's Series 2a 1960 shorty.

There's an etched plate on the back of the vehicle that tells the world it was supplied by R. J. Searle Ltd of Sunbury.

Is this the same company?

Just for the record, I am in Derby, the wind is gusting to galeforce and it's heaving down.

The rain smells of the sea!

R. J. Searle were indeed the Carawagon makers - but they also sold normal unconverted vehicles as a dealer.

My 1969 SWB was supplied by them too, with an etched plate on the back like you describe.

It does seem quite likely the person selling the lamp got it off a Searle supplied Land Rover, and assumed it was a special Carawagon feature because of the Searle plate on the back

Weather's still fine in West Yorkshire, breezy but clear skies!
