Re: build and dispatch dates
Hi Karl,
All my research at gaydon was for series 2, 3 door
carawagons.With chassis beginning 252, 277, and
346.
I looked at 5 door vehicles dispatched to carawagon
but there was so many that they converted some and
sold some as standard vehicles.I will keep your chassis
no and when i go back to gaydon i will get the build
and dispatch dates for you.
Regards
Phillip

Re: build and dispatch dates
Karl,
Do you still have the registration number (from the original UK number plate) from when it was imported, or any paperwork with it on?
There is a form you can fill out and send to the licensing authorities over here (DVLA) requesting all of the records they hold for the vehicle.
It's not always complete, and I'm not sure if they would be willing to post to SA and I'm not sure if it would work for a vehicle permanently exported, but it might be worth a try.
The form is the V888, HERE.
In fact, looking at it again, they ask for proof of address etc. so might not work for you.
If you want, I can try to call DVLA this week some time to ask if the form would work for you for overseas owners.
Of course, if it's a '68 and if it was driven to SA in the late 60s, there is unlikely to be any useful info held by DVLA In which case, Phillip is your best bet to at least find the build date.
Cheers,
Robin.

Re: build and dispatch dates
Hi Robin,
Thank you, I will check toolboxes etc. for any evidence of a life in England. From what I have been told the vehicle was purchased and immediately driven to South Africa. I'm going to have tons of questions for you......
There are two levers on the steering column, one I recognize as an indicator. Any idea what other May be ?
Also noticed this morning vehicle doesn't have a split screen, was this an option ?
Regards
Karl

Re: build and dispatch dates
Hi Karl,
I haven't seen an additional lever switch like that on a Land Rover before - perhaps an aftermarket one used as a dip/main beam switch? Looks like you'll just have to try it to see what, if anything, happens
Yes, the Panoramic screen was an option. See this brochure (bottom left):
You can click on the picture to make it more readable
Cheers,
Robin.

Re: build and dispatch dates
Hi,
How do I go about finding out the build date of my landrover, it was registered 25th April 1975 but I am guessing searl would have had it for a while to convert it. It would be good if the build date is early enough to make it tax exempt (very wishful thinking)
Regards Christine
