Looks a good start for a home-conversion I reckon, especially with that tub already converted as it does make a big different to internal space and usability IMO

That roof section is pretty badly damaged, it looks like it's been bent backwards in storage, then pulled around till it's torn.

Perhaps fixable with some patches over the tears - once the wood section are screwed onto the sides it may pull it back into shape too.

Or an opportunity for somebody to experiment with alternative materials for the flexible section?

Yes, I agree with Patrick - that roof is pretty bad

Just for those not in the know, the flexible roof section isn't ordinary aluminium, but a material called Duralumin which is a special allow which is pre-hardened and so doesn't work harden like ordinary aluminium. This means it doesn't crack as easily after repeated bending and straightening like ordinary aluminium does. It was first used as airframe sections for Zeppelins!

When we collected Patrick's 'kit of parts' the roof had been bent backwards - very easy to do if you try to store it on one edge! but once we got it fastened to the new woodwork and hinges it straightened out. However, the one on ebay is in a much worse condition and I'm not sure patching it with ordinary aluminium would stop the tears.

However, depending on the final price, it might be worth risking, or as Patrick says, a project to experiment with alternative roof material

Luckily I'm out of the country, otherwise I might be tempted for another project

G'day chaps, i just thought you would like to know that's what old road signs were made of what used to be the wooden black and white marker posts with a red reflector on were the same type of metal although it was 40 years ago i guess things might have changed .

How do i know well when my truck went in for a MOT i acted as the relief store man for a couple of days and i still have a couple of those reflectors left plus just one sign also when they had a clear out a 3x2x5 foot box made from double bend signs was thrown out this is now full of landrover door hinges of all types.

Maybe they have changed now due to the exspense due to not really looking anymore .

Was there not an ex-army command carawagon with the pop up roof repaired with an overlay of canvas at one of the shows not so long back ?
A trip to Anchor supplies to get some spare canvas may prove useful to the purchaser of this item ?

What is the round/ circle mark on he offside panel near the window ?
Two fuel fillers - twin tank arrangement ?

Think John was driving that until fairly recently.

The ex military one had the roof end panels fixed in place and a canvas cover made, I think while still in service.

It's owned by a collector over in Europe somewhere, Belgium?, and Wayne (Lardrover on here) was one of the custodians for a while.
John borrowed it a few times as well until it was swapped for a FC FFR late 2011 (I think) - John drove it down to Peterborough and drove a Pinkie 109 (another of the collector's vehicles) back up North while Wayne drove the FC back.

I'm sure Wayne and/or John will be along to confirm/refute this
