Height?
Hi all,
Does anyone know the overall height of a Dormobile on standard springs?
A question has come up about the height of a garage door from someone who is on the lookout for a Carawagon or Dormobile. He's worried about getting it into his garage and is thinking he might need to convert a 109 with standard roof into a camper instead.
By the way, this question comes from someone who wants to join LRCC but has no Internet access
Cheers,
Robin.

Re: Height?
Oooer.... just been out to measure our Carawagons and they vary from 206 cm on standard springs to 209 cm on paras.
Does the Dormy roof really add that much more?
The Carawagon roof is easy to measure as the end supports, where the roof sits when collapsed, are vertical - the top ridge of the Carawagon roof is 14cm higher than the original roof top.
I realise that a Dormobile roof will be much harder to measure as it is rounded and sits down at gutter level
Cheers,
Robin.

Re: Height?
Load may also play a part. Is the Carawagon the same weight as the Dorma?

Re: Height?
And of course, the state of the springs
I would imagine they are a similar weight - ply cabinets vs. tinplate might make a bit of difference, and fibreglass vs. ply & duralloy etc. but things like gas bottles, cooker, seats, water, emergency food, shovel etc. etc. would be about the same.
You are correct though - perhaps I should have asked if someone could measure the height from the gutter to the top of the roof
As I say, that's easy on a Carawagon, but perhaps not so easy on a Dormobile!
Is your roof fitted on your vehicle yet Rob? Just wondered if you could measure?
Cheers,
Robin.

Re: Height?
Still not got the fibreglass recoated or the ding straightened out - roof still with the garage in much the same place as it was dropped off in March..... Hopefully sorted over the winter when they shift another long term project!
Will measure up the back of the Carawagon (standard roof) if I can as it'll give an empty height on heavy duty parabolics.

Re: Height?
Empty with standard roof, 750's rear, 650's front (don't ask) & heavy duty parabolics 206cm ish
Not sure what the roof would add, but cupboards etc ought to also make a difference.

Re: Height?
Mine measures 2120mm that's from the top of the opening vent to the floor. You wouldn't want to bash that off going into your garage Mine has standard springs and sits on 7.50x16 Michelin tyres. The springs are rebuilt so there shouldn't be any sag in them yet.
Hope this helps

Re: Height?
Forgot to add that from the top of the opening vent to the gutter measures 365mm or about 14" in old money
I'm trying to work out how Loic's dormobile is 230cm seems rather high.
