Just tried FJ for mine & they don't cover Carawagons! Or altered engines on the classic policy.....

As I think has been mentioned before, ring again at a different time of day and you might get a different answer from someone else :stars:

Did they actually say they don't cover Carawagons, or couldn't they find it on their lists?
If you tell them it's a Land Rover 109" with factory fitted conversion you might get a different answer

As you'll see from previous posts, Big Dave & Patrick are both with FJ, both with Carawagons and Patrick's is 200TDi (can't remember what Dave's is, but I think that's also 200TDi) :neener:

It really does seem to be pot luck with insurance, depending on who you catch on the phone.

Don't have Carawagons on the list, and don't cover engine mods. Apparently I'm OK in theory on another policy now as it's an empty shell. I'll try them again next week.
What exactly are yours defined as on the policy? They were implying that they were covering 109's and that you may have mislead them.... Muppets!

Rob
I have tried FJ twice and got the same response - Heritage or RH seem to actually want business

FJ will insure Dormobiles and Carawagons, this is crazy.... I insured my Dormobile in September, they have three underwriters, one definitely covers them! I am underwritten by Royal & SunAlliance and my documents clearly state LANDROVER DORMOBILE SERIES 2A do not take no for an answer, go up the chain if they will not quote! At first they said no to me, but I said don't be so ridiculous and explained factory conversion, I have offered to let them examine my Dormobile and a Carawagon if they wanted...

Ask to speak to Laura Jones, she sorted mine out.

Heritage definitely do campers and as an S2C member you get a discount Rob.

Agreed, I explicitly described exactly what mine was (factory conversion camper) and what it had in it, beds, gas cooker, fridge etc. Also the fact it had a 200tdi which didn't seem to cause a problem.
Tell them they already insure at least one that's very similar, NPF554L

So either you've been unlucky with who you've got in the call centre, or they've changed their policy.

RH are good too, the only reason I didn't choose them was they wouldn't allow me to use it for commuting, especially as I don't have a 'normal' car in my name.

Cheers, will try FJ again tomorrow and see what happens. Hopefully can use them, as will want commuting on the 88" at some point. Part of the issue could be the lack of beds etc but they'll be getting refitted as soon as I figure out the layout & get the mechanicals done.

Overlander are fairly local? Will look properly later.

OK, it's clearer now. FJ will cover the Carawagon with modified engine but only when it's complete. They don't cover it during the refit. Unfortunately this also means they won't cover as a 109 with modified engine to move it around before the camper bit is replaced....

Going to try Heritage next!
