First camping in carolcarawagon!!
Just a quick update
We have finally done our first camping trip!!
We booked the camp site at Cenarth falls about an hour from home
Drove up in torrential rain but no brake downs so really chuffed
First night bit soggy but still fun!
Carawagon looked so cool on the site, definitely nothing else compared!
Hopefully pics will upload
Excited about next trip just a few snagging issues to address!
200tdi lost power going down hill once or twice!?
But started again and off we went

Re: First camping in carolcarawagon!!
That is fantastic Phil
Great to see you've finished it, and are using it. It looks really good, especially with the proper awning.
You just need a firepit now, to complete the ensemble
We do find we get mixed reactions on 'proper' camp sites, with some folk looking down their noses at the old Land Rovers, and others really interested and wanting to chat.
It does help though, that you have an original awning.
I suppose ours, with tarps thrown over the frame, doesn't really have the same look
I must get mine sorted - at the moment it's on loan to someone wanting to use it as a pattern, and though I have frames on all of my Carawagons, the one I'm using at the moment doesn't have the 'groove' or the poppers for the awning.
Interesting 200tdi problem though.
Was it actually cutting out, or just slowing down? What sort of hills - long high speed or short low speed?
Cheers,
Robin.

Re: First camping in carolcarawagon!!
Thanks guys for your kind words - never actually thought we’d get to a camp site!!
As for the power loss
Happened twice going down hill- one quite long the other not so long- steepish but not too bad
From what I remember it cuts out but in the panic it’s fuzzy! Definitely one time it cut out we pulled over and had to restart- then drove 1/2 home no problems
Fuel filter changed often
Check fuel pipe work?
Lift pump?
Stop soleonoid?
I need to sort it as not fun in heavy traffic!!
Any suggestions gratefully received!!

Re: First camping in carolcarawagon!!
That sounds strange Phil
If the engine is fine at all other times, acceleration ok, no juddering or kangarooing, then I can't see it being fuel or lift pump, though I suppose if you were low on fuel there's a chance it could be the pick-up tube in the tank?
We had a problem on Patrick's SWB where the gauze filter over the end of the pickup tube was blocked, so it was trying to pull fuel (then air!) from the top of the gauze about 2" above the bottom of the tube.
I would check that the wire to the stop solenoid is ok, and the terminal isn't loose on top of the solenoid. I'm wondering if it could be a change of engine position, on the overrun going downhill, which might be pulling on the wire?
Anyway, apart from that, I hope you enjoy your 'new' camper and have many trips in it
Perhaps we'll see you at a show or event?
Cheers,
Robin.

Re: First camping in carolcarawagon!!
Would love to do a show with all of you guys but they are all so bloody far away! Peterborough is quite a trip even in our car! So I think we’ll have to build up to that in the carawagon!
If only Eastnor was still going - that would be achieveable - west wales is a great place to live but it’s quite far from most places !
Looking forward to our next trip, if only the weather would pick up
Quick question- what tyre pressures?
Got 235 85 16 - think we were a bit under inflated once we were full of kit
Cheers

Re: First camping in carolcarawagon!!
Sorry one last question!
Now we have finished it I want to get an agreed
Value for the insurance - comparable are difficult to find so anyone got rough idea what I should ask for? I know it’s not polite to talk about money but I don’t want to be in the brown stuff if we ever needed to make a claim !

Nice looking carawagon Would you have any pics of the engine bay ??
Wales to Peterborough is only 273 kms you'd be there in no time

Re: First camping in carolcarawagon!!
not sure if my contribution might help but?
Like you, I've got a Defender 200Tdi in my Dormobile. I've used a K and N style air filter on the turbo rather than have those long Defender type air tubes and filter. Thinking maybe when your turbo slows on those downhill sections it cant pull enough air?
Only a though - kind regards Chris
