Info: Land Rover series 11a Carawagon

Hi from Oxfordshire,

Post by Ianob1 » Fri Feb 08, 2019 12:56 pm

Hi Guys,

My name is Ian, I have a huge interest in older Land Rovers and have just added a 1965 Series 11a 5 door Carawagon.

It needs a bit of work, but I will get it on the road and use it, being a rolling restoration, far to many older landers are being fixed whilst their owners life passes them by. I'm going to use it in the first instance and fix it as I get time.

I suspect I will have many questions so please feel free to help if you can.

Hi Ian, and welcome.

Well done on saving another 5 door Carawagon

We used to think the 5 door versions were very, very rare! A few years ago we only knew of a couple, including one my son & I restored, but there seem to be a few more coming out of the woodwork (or barns) now, and I think we've got half a dozen or so on record, including one I got last year.
Still a lot rarer than 3 door versions though.

I remember this one when it was up for sale on ebay - Searle did the roof conversion, but the owner did all of the interior, including a full width bed to sleep 3!

It would be great to see what it's like now, and pictures as you restore it.

I'm a believer in using it while restoring - life's too short to spend years restoring something while it doesn't turn a wheel

Cheers,
Robin.

Hi Ian,

I went to Suffolk to look at this when it was for sale.

His father was an engineer and completely
redesigned the interior to a high standard.

I agree a lot of work but well worth it

If I can help in any way please contact me.
