carawagon sw series 2 six cylinder

Post by cam43 » Tue Sep 30, 2014 10:48 pm

bought my seies 2 six cylinder carawagon out of a field in derbyshire earlyer this summer. i finaly got it home a couple of weeks ago. Built in late 66 registered in 67. Its quite rotton but its mechanical sound. its missing all its carawagon parts, but the cut rear wheel arch is still in place and the box under the drivers seat has been removed for the gas bottles.

being a station wagon it worth saving. i hope to bring it back to life this winter, ready for use in the spring.

Hi Ben, and welcome.

As Phillip says, it was good to meet you and chat at the weekend, especially to hear about your fleet of vehicles.

Looking forward to progress reports and pictures - I hope you got some inspiration from Patrick's SW Carawagon.

As you know SW Carawagons are quite rare so well done for saving this one

Cheers,
Robin.

Hi Ben,
If you want more photos or measurements of any of the station wagon specific bits then just let me know. As you've seen mine isn't perfect and some of the woodwork has been replaced. But I'm sure all the the Carawagon specific seat cushions are original so the seat boxes can't be far off.

cheers,
Patrick

Same as Dormy (Despatch - Aug 66, Registered - Feb 67). It's good to know both companies took their time building them.

When you tell people it's a 66, expect plenty of - "But it's on an 'E' !?"

Good luck with your project.

If it's a genuine 6 then I would be very surprised if it was built in '66 as they were not available until May (I think) 1967!

Good to see you have made your way over here

well i had a bit of a play with the SW to night and got it running with a tempery fuel tank and under it own power crawled across the yard, the clutch is slipping and theres no brakes but it moves! lol...

i even managed to presure wash the chassis and body work with all the brush painted blue paint coming off it n sheets showing its lovey pastel green body work. tomorrow im going to have a look at the chassis and work out what need to repair the chassis to good order.

The chassis number is very low it ends in 020A i havnt yet sorted finding out its date of build but i guess it was late 66 or january 67. its E reg.

It was great to meet robin, phillip and patrick at the overland adventure show. you have inspired me to get on with it so i can start using it.

i hope i find a carawagon roof at sodbury at the weekend.

Update
after pressure washing the chassis and body i got it on a ramp today and found its very rotton. both dun irons. n/s bulkhead outrgger. rear xmember, O/s/r shock mount Both rear spring hangers. Bulkhead needs both pillers and foot wells and topo couners. ..... As i had a bit of time on my side after noon i replaced the N/S bulkhead out ridger and fitted the transfer box input gear, and cover, oh and drained the water out of the both gearboxes.. [aaagh]
refilled with EP90 and fingers cross all will be ok.. the clutch is slipping so im going to start on that next week.

Just ordered my new chassis for the White Dormobile. Reckon on £2200 with extras and Series 2 club discount

Picking up my disc brake kits at the end of the month (got discount for 3 sets!) Sorry for the hijack - it was meant to let you know how much a lwb station wagon chassis will set you back
