Had a bit of sunshine so stripped off the reinforcer beams from the rear tub and sanded the bottom and the beams down ready for some warmer weather and painting

Image

Power steering also on now.

Image

Just need to work out the radiator / oil cooler and intercooler solution now. Looks like the tdi rad and td5 intercooler won't work due to the power steering box

I managed a bit more today. A mega milestone in getting the engine and box together (new 4 part clutch kit) and into the chassis.

Seems like ages but here is an update.
Back tub is now on, exhaust has been fabricated (front pipe) to make a standard 6 pot exhaust fit, bulkhead has been painted as has seatbox, power steering pump and alternator fitted.

Image

Decided to use series rad, 300 intercooler and separate oil cooler

Image

Just seems so much neater

Starting to fix things to the bulkhead

Image

Shorland axle has had it's diff changed to a 3.54 and also a standard track rod as the one on the floor is decidedly out of shape. Iwas meant to be bent to get round the diff, but not like it is

Image

Image

Next steps are to replace the hub oil seals and then change the axle, then get the brakes and fuel lines fitted and concentrate on getting the engine ready to run.
Need to order my new wiring loom.

Started to prepare the hubs for fitting by changing the seals.
First of the Shorland problems was that the hubseals aren't same size as series. However they are the same as 90 / 110 ones so a trip to Land Rover centre sorted that out

Image

Then on to fitting the zeus disc brake kit

Image

Image

and the standard track rod which is straight and rests on the diff housing on full lock, but as hte bent one is very bent, it will suffice

Finally, as they say, remove the series front axle and replace with the shorland

Image

Current Shorland problem is that one of the u bolts adjacent to the diff needs to be wider and of course will need a different hole spacing. So a new or adjusted spring plate and u bolt is required.

Discs kit fitted a treat. Not plumbed in yet though

Hi alex,

Just wondering... Which 300tdi block are you using? From a Defender or Disco?
Read somewhere that it makes a difference in fitting or not fitting.

Looks good so far.

Cheers,

Michiel

Thought it was the exhaust manifolds that differed? One puts the turbo up high and allows it to clear the chassis rail ? The Disco one IIRC?

Alex
May I ask the name / supplier of the silver foil you are affixing to your bulkhead please?

Kindest regards
Mark
