confused - which brake MC ?

Post by AlexB » Fri Jan 02, 2015 6:06 pm

Chassis number 27612129H - believed 6 pot

What brake MC should I get for it ? (I think it should be a 569339 1" - are they all 1"?)

Are they a larger bore than the "normal" lwb?

I know it should have a separate reservoir

Ditto the clutch MC please? (I think it should be a 3/4" 550732)

Thanks

Anyone have a spare servo to match or can I use a series 3 one?

Thanks again

They are both 1". The extra stopping powers is provided by the twin leading setup of the lwb front brakes. It just depends if yours has the big nut on the end or not. The difference is the tread of the brake pipe nut if I recall correctly.

HI Alex

The part numbers are correct for a vehicle fitted with the peddle mounted servo. The servo was the same from 1968 to the end of Series 3 production, but the master cylinder changed when dual servo brakes were adopted. They did not make different versions of the Servo master cylinder for swb or LWB vehicles.

Hope this helps

Cheers Mick

Just as a point to note - greater braking effort is actually given by a smaller bore in the master cylinder, but the wheel cylinders will move less for the same pedal stroke length. With TLS brakes the wheel cylinder bore is less than the SLS cylinder but of course there are two of them per wheel - not sure what difference this makes in terms of volume of fluid needed to apply the brakes  Lots of measuring and a bit of maths needed to work out all the proper figures.

Theory aside, I would think the 'standard' S3 pedal box servo M/C would fit your needs best, especially when you consider the ease of availability of bits for them compared to the CB types etc.

Calum

Please write 100 times.

The servo mounted pedal box was ftted from 1968 onwards and is a Series 2a part.

Happy New Year
