Bulkhead alignment - bottom bolts on richards chassis

Post by Peaceand » Tue Oct 23, 2018 9:17 pm

This has nothing to do with campers I'm afraid - it's a SWB rechassis that is at the reassembly phase. However the s2c forum is down - so hopefully some folk on here will be able to help.

The basic problem is the hole in the chassis outrigger the bulkhead bolts through, seems to be 4mm lower on a Richards Chassis than the original.

I believe my previous chassis to be the original, with the hole dead centre - and that's this photo:

And this is the new Richards chassis with the hole towards the bottom:

The difference is about 4mm from the top plate of the outrigger to the centre of the hole - not much, but enough to prevent the sill bar from fitting level.

On a separate but possibly related point - the holes in the sill bar are horizontally slotted - and so are the holes in the bulkhead. Should the bulkhead have vertical slots to allow for more adjustment up and down? If it did, that may make up for the 4mm difference.

Sill bars:

Bulkhead foot holes:

Any ideas where the problem is? It's a 1969 series 2a if that makes a difference, and a Richards Chassis replacement for that year.

Thanks,
Patrick

Has the bulkhead been repaired at some point? Similarly the bulkhead outriggers? I'd be surprised if Richards were wrong, but maybe it's a later repair that's not correct.

It's possible! And more than likely what Richards will assume/claim too.

The horizontally slotted holes in the bulkhead feet are inconsistent with a series 3 bulkhead (the only one we have exposed at the moment) which has vertically slotted holes in the bulkhead feet.

How does it compare? Not to say that's correct either!

Looks like that one has the (correct?) vertical slots too!
