1969 Carawagon on ebay

Post by RMS » Mon Feb 16, 2015 10:53 am

This is local to us, one we have known about for a couple of years, and the owner has finally decided to sell it.

HERE

I've just been to have a poke around with the promise of putting it on the forum to raise a bit of interest.

It's fairly clean, in reasonable condition, and has only done 1000 miles in the 7 years in this ownership.

The chassis is original with patches and replaced dumbirons, and sounds pretty solid though I did find a hole in the bottom of the chassis in front of the rear spring hanger so would need a really good look to make sure there aren't any more.

The bulkhead has had new footwells (not ribbed) and the rest looks ok without me actually poking it with a screwdriver!

When this owner bought it the woodwork inside and the roof were all rotten - it had been stored in a damp greenhouse for several years! This owner has replaced the cupboards, though not to the original design as there's now a double jump-seat at the back.
There's no cooker or fridge, or cupboard for them, just a space where they should be.
The owner replaced the roof woodwork with ordinary ply which is now showing signs of delaminating, so really needs replacing.

So, might make a nice TLC project for someone

If anyone wants any more independent info, I'm happy to go and have another poke around.

Cheers,
Robin.

Hi all

Land Rover built very few 6 pots with the lights in the panel and I'm surprisd to see another one. Like Calum's, this is a very rare vehicle and well worth restoring.

Philip, do you know how many 6 pots were converted in 1967/68?

Cheers Mick

Hi,
I just saw this ad by chance and it reminded me to check into this forum and see what the enthusiasts are thinking! (Why are so many camper conversions located in Yorkshire??)

This would be a fun opportunity for someone! ... but it's not for me this time. I have too many Land Rovers in bits!

It's nice that the owner has labelled the ignition leads for the unsuspecting buyer -- the way they're plugged in, the oil pump driveshaft seems to be 180 degrees out. I did it once, too! OK it might be reversed, but it shows that the engine's at least had attention paid to its bottom end in its meager 70k mile existence. A good sign.

Also it's got the remote brake booster (servo), pretty cool!

I hope it finds a kind home!

Hi Mick,

Sorry about the delay in replying.

Have been camping in the yorkshire
dales this w/e.

Going by Gaydon's records there was 20
6 pots built in 1967,and 27 in 1968.This
is only the 3 doors. Not possible to find
out how many 5 doors(but we know it
was only a few 5 doors altogether)

Keep me informed about the trip to
France.

Regards

I see it went for £3,600 - probably about right for a project in that condition, in my opinion

I wonder if the new owner will find their way onto this forum?

Cheers,
Robin.

Great project for somebody at that price - and probably quite an easy one too!
