LRCC Winter Camp

Post by RMS » Sun Feb 22, 2015 7:00 pm

Hi guys,

Just to re-start this thread (lost by admin :embarassed: )

Thanks all for joining us in the Dales for a great weekend.

Kiwi Chris arrived first with his nice S2 and Dandy camper, set up by Friday lunchtime and waiting for us.

Steve and I arrived later in the afternoon in our Carawagons after problems mating Steve's rebuilt overdrive to his gearbox - the new input shaft and clutch sleeve are such tight tolerances that the positioning needs to be very precise.
Eventually we were lucky and it slipped in so a quick test, a bite to eat, and we set off through a tortuous Bradford route!

Phillip arrived in his Carawagon followed by Neil in his 109 Camper.

Patrick had battery problems so couldn't set off as planned after work, but joined us early on Saturday morning after a dawn start.

Simon and Jo arrived just as some of us were piling out of Chris's SWB at the pub just down the road - I managed to flag them down but they decided to get to the site to let the dogs have a run (on leads as we were sharing the field with a flock of sheep!).

So, Friday night was spent around the three firepits, swapping stories and drinking good stuff!

Saturday dawned bright and sunny - almost warm! Chris and Patrick tried to scale the steep hill just behind the camp to try to get a phone signal! The rest of us relaxed and didn't climb the hill

The trip to the pub was entertaining for one young lad on a bike who watched in amazement as we emerged from the back of Chris's SWB - he must have thought it was one of those clown cars where they just keep on coming out, one after the other

In the evening the Moroccan Tagine which had been marinating for three days was set on the firepit stove for 3 hours and was consumed, along with a trifle of trifle made by Chris, or so he said!
Snow showers eventually drove everyone to bed where hot water bottles and dogs provided comfort for some, and Diesel cab heaters for others :neener:

Sunday changed completely and was cold and windy. We had planned on a leisurely pack-up and then, after lunch, a green lane run. However, it was so cold we decided to pack up early and do the green lane in the gathering snow flurries.
I'd forgotten how many gates there were on that green lane, and as lambing season is coming up, they were all shut! However, it's a nice gentle run with a couple of tricky bits - just right for a Sunday amble in the snow showers.

Hope everyone else enjoyed it - pictures to follow

Cheers,
Robin.

Looks like a summer camp, doesn't it!

This was before Simon & Jo arrived in their 109 camper:
