Easter Camp, Yorkshire Dales

Post by RMS » Fri Jan 16, 2015 10:38 pm

Hi everyone,

We normally join others in the S2C for an Easter camp in the Yorkshire area, but they aren't organising one this year.

So..... who fancies an LRCC Easter Camp? Good Friday to Easter Monday, 3rd to 6th April.

How Stean Gorge, 7 miles north of Pateley Bridge, looks like a nice place to chill out.

This has an established camp site, though it is small (about 30 max), with hot showers, toilets, licensed cafe and a camp shop.
Camping is £12 per person per night (peak rate as it's a bank holiday weekend) and we would need to pre-book well in advance!

John has popped up for the day and suggests it's not suitable for caravans as there's a narrow bridge into the camping field, which is a bit hilly so not good for trying to manoeuvre on wet grass/mud slope!
4WD campers and trailer tents should be fine on the field, as well as those with canvas rooms!

There are plenty of lanes nearby - Grewelthorpe Moor is close by and has some nice scenic green lanes.

As Easter is likely to be a busy time we really need to book as soon as possible. First come, first served, so let me know as soon as you decide, please, as space is likely to be limited.
We may also need to pay deposits due to it being a bank holiday, so please be prepared to put your money where your mouth (or your keyboard finger) is

Cheers,
Robin.

Hi Robin

Cannot commit to anything early in the year as may have to go to Norfolk at short notice. We are also planning to retrace our Honeymoon trip this summer as it has been 10 years since we tied the knot. The Dormobile will have to come off the road sometime as I am going to have to stoop low and fit a 5 speed.

Saying that, if she is on the road, I am not going to Norfolk and there is space, I will try my best to get to as many events as possible.

The plan for this weekend is to get my cab heater finlly fitted. Think I bought it before we got married.

From howe stean you can climb up the hill to the pub at middlesmoor. I have vague memories of the trouble I got in to there. The pub landlord threw in the towel around 3am and told us to help ourselves and leave the money on the bar!

Last call guys!

I really need to book this in as I suspect Easter could be busy.

We have nearly 10 on the list so far

Please PM or reply on here so I can add you to the list.

Cheers,

A change of venue - still the Yorkshire Dales, but this is now going to be at a non-registered site, with no facilities so you will need to be self-contained - bring a spade or porta-potti!

If anyone is wanting to join us, please PM me for details.

Yeah - red tape and officialdom was getting in the way at the originally planned venue so we've decided simples is best

Well, that was Easter, and that was the camp

Thanks to the Navy Boyz, Chris 'Bagga' and Trev "Tarquin" for joining me at our favourite location.

It was a bit cold and wet on Friday morning, but dried out in the afternoon and we had a good night around the firepits with Kath's curry and hot tatties, followed by Chris' iced Easter buns.
The weather on Saturday was good - warmed up quite a bit and dry, so we decided to do the local green lane followed by a pint, or two, or three, ...... at the local pub (I was driving Chris' SWB back so I only had one!).
A bit of de-ja-vue as we were sat there outside the pub when we spotted another Carawagon approaching in the distance, so I jumped into the middle of the road to flag Trev down - of course, he joined us for a pint, or two, or ..... It'd be rude not to

Back to camp, where Chris & I helped tow a camper converted LDV panel van out of the mire, before I got down to making dinner for us all - another Moroccan lamb Tagine, followed by more of Chris' buns.
Mick, Louise & William joined us for the evening as well - good to see them and catch up.

Of course, Kath & Chris' tea loaf, carrot cake and lemon cake was on the go all of the time

At the end of the day, I think the change of venue from the original 'organised' site to the 'unregistered' site was a good move - a quiet, chilled out weekend

Cheers,
Robin.

Fantastic camp, fantastic people and bloody fantastic views. One of the best camps we have been to, no pressure, politics or bull, a pity more people didn't participate maybe less is more  great green lane can't wait to do it again especially if the pub is at the end of it  ,What a real pleasure to see Trev, made for a good weekend with Chris, Robin , Mick and family chatting, laughing, eating and stories told.
Thanks for a good one look forward to the next
Chris
