Burnt out

Will start a new thread to avoid sidetracking another one, those with fine eye for detail may have noticed that last week one of mine was destroyed in a fire.

Today I was able to get a bit closer for some pictures, but this thread is more to keep those interested up to date with the insurance process. The long weekend did not help, but as of this morning my insurer is insisting on having an inspection conducted.

Quite how he is going to get past the do not enter barrier tape with risk of the remaining part of building coming down on his head remains to be seen.

Now spot the Land Rover?

Adjacent building occupied by a Joinery/Cabinet maker, fire investigation findings point to it starting in or around a paint/varnish store. Fire discovered around 4.30am, spotted by a passing Police unit, but building was by that time well alight with large supply of seasoned timber in basement to fuel the fire.

Feeling gutted for you...

Hopefully you get a good pay-out and be able to salvage some of it?

Sorry to hear of your loss, hope the insurance company pay up without too many problems.

Hopefully you can salvage the seat frames, they seem to be the most difficult parts to locate.

Thinking it was a bit quiet on the Insurance communications front, gave them a call to see what progress had been made as the garage owner had not received any calls from my Insurance.

Things did not start out well. they could not match the claim number reference against my name, eventually resolved after several transfers to other agents. The discussion from then on went downhill.

Insurance Agent: I see from the documentation you have a £100 excess on this policy, how would you like to pay this, we can take credit or debit, but we do charge an extra 2% on credit transactions.

Me: I am not paying anything, when are you guys going to send someone up to see the remains of the vehicle before they demolish the building on top of it?

Agent: If the keys are in the vehicle we can get our recovery contractor up in the next few days to collect it, you do realise our engineers will inspect the vehicle when we have it back to determine the cause of the fire?

Me: Sorry, can I speak to somebody who knows what the hell they are talking about, your just winding me up, it was in a building that burnt down, it was not my vehicle that caused the fire, it is totally burnt out, per the pictures you have, the keys are probably in what remains of the vehicle, and the building is deemed unstable and dangerous too enter.

Agent: I will get somebody to call you back.....................currently still waiting.

Picture of how it was prior to going into garage.

That is certainly not a good start.

I realy feel for you man. It's like banging your head to a brick wall when the insurer is reacting so uninterested.
I hope it will all be ok in the end.

Sorry about your loss, it's not like some repmobile, more like a member of the family. Good luck with the insurance though I feel you have a long haul , what with others being involved. I have noticed, with 2 series Land-Rovers and 2 kit cars that there are some incredibly thick people in some insurance offices.
