Re: 1961 Series IIA Dormobile - Bea for Sale
Apologies all, it appears the car & classics website phone contact is a bit hit and miss as I have received calls via it so had no reason to doubt the concept! However have been all at sea for the last 6 weeks and frequently out of phone or internet contact so that may have a bearing also. Bea s...

1961 Series IIA Dormobile - Bea for Sale
The time has come for a new custodian for Bea after many happy years camping and adventuring, I am now preparing to depart these shores for a circumnavigation by sail and unfortunately I cannot take her with me. Details can be found at https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C988402 Key points, 1961 ear...

Re: Night heaters?
Good afternoon Robin,
I could well be interested in a petrol version for Bea if you still have one available, the trouble with getting old seems to be that an extra fleece just does not cut it any more.
Kind regards
Phil

Re: Records
IAll 4 of ours are marked as RHD Export so I suspect that like the MW ones, those destined for MW or Searle for conversion were marked as such  It might also be interesting to find out how many 5 door were sent to Searle - we've only seen 4 or 5 LWB SW Carawagons pop up in the last few years...

Re: Records
Hi Phil Hope this gearbox last long enough for me to save up enough money to pay for s 5 speed gearbox and Ashcroft conversion. Plan is to take Barney off the road next Easter and fit the five speed. As the engine has to go forward, the Mazda engine is an option as it is 4" shorter than the TD...

Re: Records
My God you're back, the rumours were unfounded!! I keep getting grilled by a couple of former neighbours of yours, names unknown, who turn up at the Classic Car meets at Ripon and Ripley from time to time.. Hope you can join us 'camping it up' one weekend. Hello John, Intrigued as to the rumors? Ne...

Re: Records
I wonder if we'll get a volunteer to check the records for Searle vehicles Do you know if MW also sold 'standard' Land Rovers? I know Searle/Carawagon International sold non-Carawagons! Eg. Patrick's SWB was supplied by Searle, though it has never been a Carawagon or Safari Sleeper - just has a &qu...

Re: Records
Right, found it; In 2007 I spent 3 days down in the Reading Room at Gaydon working with Richard to document all the Series 2 and 2A production that were despatched to Martin Walter Ltd. This was to my simple mind probably the best way to get a reasonably accurate idea of how many Dormobiles were pro...

Re: Records
Thanks Robin, nicely settled out in the cuds now with plenty of Land Rover space and Bea is in regular use around the Howardian Hills and Herriot Country. Just contemplating a chassis change on 'George' over the winter!
Kind regards
Phil

Re: Records
The main man who could answer your question is PKR , the owner of BEA, which is one of the earliest MW Dormobile conversions on a Land Rover chassis, but he has not been about for over a year now. He has investigated the history of the Land Rover Dormobile and has a wealth of information on and exp...
