Oldest Carawagons

Hi all Speaking with Philip at the Classic Land Rover Gathering about our Carawagon raised the question in William's and my mind to the question of the oldest Carawagon? I had not aware that Searle only started building them 1966/1967. Ours was built April/May 1967 and registered on the 22nd May 196...

Re: Paddock Expedition Fridge

My Weaco is showing error faults, so might be trying one of these if I cannot fix it.

Re: Dormobile wardrobe

The only Dormobile wardrobes with two doors are the ones I make. Never seen an original one with two doors.

Re: Which Solar panel?

Hi all Just back from Corsica. To help the 50 watt solar panel on the roof box, I bought this folding 80 watt panel. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/80W-Solar-Panel-12V-18V-Flexible-Foldble-Solar-Panel-usb-Portable-Solar-Cell-Kit/264266090468?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649...

Re: Which Solar panel?

HI Paul I have just fitted a 50W panel to the Roof box on the Dormobile and just done 6 days in France and it worked great at temperatures up to 20C. Battery still up at 12.6V before i fired the engine up to come home. I know this is too small for summer, so plan to buy a folding 60/80w to boost the...

Re: Dormobile wardrobe bolt wanted

I have looked high and low to find suitable replacement sliding bolts. The originals have a spring inside to stop them rattling. The ones I use at present are alloy and seam to last ok. Only bust one in 10 years and that was my fault.

Re: Dormobile roof won’t open fully. Help please

Hi all

My 1971 Dormobile has a different arrangement at the top of the stays. There are three slots for the top mount, to allow for the stiffing of the canopy in winter. All later roofs should have this arrangement.

Cheers Mick

Re: Dormobile on the bay

Hi all

26mpg!!! I had better buy her.

As for how many Dormobiles? Martin Walters built about 900 Land Rover Dormobiles. How many Carawagons were built> I know Philip said Searle only did 2 in 1966.

Re: Dormobile roof strengthening bar?

Hi Robin Cannot help with the canvas, but I sprayed my cap inside and outside with gel coat, using a standard cheap spraygun. Had to wet flat the outside, but left the inside as it was after I sprayed it. Certainly brightened up the whole vehicle. I had to replace all the bars in my roof when I rest...
