Re: 2x Carawagon roof rebuids

Unfortunately not much progress on the roofs. My mates one had a few cracks in the aluminium which have been welded up and now needs to paint the roof which wasn’t part of the plan. We have the marine ply, stainless steel hinges and screws but still need to get the rubber seals. In the mean time I’v...

Re: What tires where original fitted to a 109 carawagon?

One of the tyres on my 1969 Carawagon is an Avon Traction Mileage in 750R16 size.
As this vehicle had made it's way to Australia by 1971 (and I doubt these tyres were made available in Australia) I think it's one of it's originals.

Yes I imagine that would be the reason and also to allow water to drain away from the hinge.

Re: 2x Carawagon roof rebuids

I haven't found I've needed to on any of the ones I've done. I think whatever sealant Searle used seems to have stood the test of time. Hope that helps, Robin. Fantastic - that saves me a heap of time! I've notice the bottom edge of the ply sides have a bevel along its edge. Did the top edge have t...

Re: 2x Carawagon roof rebuids

Now for my first question:
When restoring these do you normally take off the aluminium angle that goes around the perimeter of the room opening to re-seal it?

2x Carawagon roof rebuids

Giday all. I have just bought a 1969 Carawagon and a friend of mine also has a 1967 Carawagon. These are pretty rare in Australia and we are keen to get these up and running and start doing some trips in the Victorian High Country as well as a few outback trips. While I'm waiting for mine to get tra...

Re: TWO (at least)in Sheffield.

This has been a great post and I have enjoyed reading it all as I'm about to start renovating 2x carawagon roofs.
How did it all end up and were you happy with the result?
Anything you would have done different?

Re: Carawagon in Western Australia

A mate of mine bought the W.A Carawagon and is now in Victoria and getting stripped down. The chassis and firewall was totally rotten. I have it's roof at the moment to start restoring and with a bit of luck will have the roof ready by Christmas. It's going to take a lot longer to have the rest of i...
